The European Commission (EC) has approved the new border program Interreg for Romania and Bulgaria.

This is worth EUR 258.5 million and should improve the life and study conditions in 15 border regions, according to the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu, cited by local Mediafax.

The European Union’s contribution to the program reaches EUR 215.7 million. EU grants this amount through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration will implement the program in Romania, which has five priorities: a well-connected, green, safe and efficient region and an inclusive region with skilled labor.

The European Commission also wants to improve the navigability on the Danube and the Black Sea in the border regions.
