EBRD chairman Suma Chakrabarti to meet President Traian Basescu, PM Victor Ponta during visit to Romania this week

President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Sir Suma Chakrabarti (in picture), is making a two-day visit two Romania, between June 17 and June 18, 2013, for talks with Bucharest officials, business partners and representatives of civil society.

During his visit to Romania, Chakrabarti will meet the country’s president Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Victor Ponta, Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu, European Funds Minister Eugen Teodorovici and National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu. Moreover, the EBRD President will also meet officials from the industrial and financial sectors, representatives of the civil society and will deliver a speech at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.

Sir Suma Chakrabarti is the sixth President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He was elected president of EBRD in July 2012, by the Bank’s Board of Governors.

EBRD’s loans for Romania last year valued EUR 612 million, a large rise from the EUR 449 million registered in 2011. Last year’s transactions take the EBRD’s total participation in Romania between 1991 and 2012 to some EUR 6.11 billion, according to an EBRD Annual Report.

During his visit to Romania, Chakrabarti will meet the country’s president Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Victor Ponta, Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu, European Funds Minister Eugen Teodorovici and National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu.
