Discounter opens store in Bucharest’s expat neighborhood

Discounter Lidl opened a store in the Pipera neighborhood in Northern Bucharest on Thursday, August 28, its 178th store in Romania.

The new store is located on 88 Erou Iancu Nicolae Street, the backbone of the Pipera expat neighborhood. It covers some 1,200 sqm.

With over 3,800 employees in Romania, Lidl runs stores across Romania. Since the beginning of the year, it has opened new stores in Eforie Nord, Targu Neamt, Iasi, Arad, Bucuresti, Popesti Leordeni, Craiova and Timisoara.

Lidl entered the Romanian market in 2000, when it bought 100 Plus discounter stores which it re-branded.

Lidl is part of Lidl & Schwartz, which also runs the Kaufland discount hypermarket chain in Romania.
