Deputy American State Secretary includes Romania on European tour, plans to talk about “strengthen the rule of law”
A high level American official will visit Romania this week, as part of an European tour.
Victoria Nuland, the deputy American State Secretary will be in Bucharest on January 10 and 11, soon after starting her European tour. Her European visit will also include trips to Lithuania and France, after starting with the Netherlands on Tuesday and Germany on Wednesday.
While in Bucharest, Nuland will meet high level Romanian officials and members of the civil society on Friday and Saturday, to talk about bilateral issues, regional problems and efforts to strengthen the rule of law.
Nuland was the one who voiced worries on behalf of the US in January 2012, when Romanians started street protests which ended up in violence.
Her visit to Romania comes less than a month after the Romanian Parliament tried to vote several changes to the Criminal Code which stirred local and international reactions. More about it here.
