Current account surplus in Romania after deficit last year

Romania’s balance of payments recorded in the first quarter a surplus of EUR 406 million, from a EUR 268 million deficit in the same period last year.

The balance of services increased its surplus by 12% to EUR 1.52 billion, whereas the secondary income surplus more than doubled, to EUR 624 million, according to the Romanian National Bank.

The primary income deficit narrowed by 38%, to EUR 550 million. The goods’ balance deficit went down by 18% to EUR 1.19 billion.

Direct investments of non-residents in Romania totaled EUR 885 million.
