Daily COVID-19 cases jump to over 1,000 in Romania

The Romanian authorities confirmed 1,060 new cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, according to the official daily report released on Tuesday, August 25. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Romania thus went up to 80,390. 

Most of the new cases were reported in Bucharest (229) and the counties of Iasi (55) and Prahova (53). 

Separately from the new cases, 732 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection. 

More than 1.67 million tests were performed in Romania so far, of which 20,479 in the last 24 hours.  

A total of 35,816 patients were declared cured so far, and 9,593 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis. 

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 3,367. A total of 58 deaths were reported between August 24 (10:00) and August 25 (10:00), in the age categories of 20-29 years (2 deaths), 30-39 years (one death), 40-49 years (4 deaths), 50-59 years (10 deaths), 60-69 years (11 deaths), and 70-79 years (20 deaths), and 80+ years (10 deaths). Fifty-seven of the patients had previous medical conditions.  

The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 490 on Tuesday, August 25. In total, 7,268 coronavirus patients are hospitalized. 

More than 10,600 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,562 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 30,962 people are under quarantine at home, and 33 are in institutionalized quarantine.
