Romania logs more than 1,200 coronavirus cases in 24 hours, total exceeds 55,000

Romania added 1,232 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 55,241 on Tuesday, August 4, the authorities announced in the daily report released at 13:00.

Except for Monday, August 3, when it added 823 cases, Romania has been reporting more than 1,000 daily cases since July 22.

Separate from the new cases, 712 patients who were retested still had the Covid-19 infection.

Of the total cases, 28,006 patients recovered, while 5,136 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.

In the last 24 hours, 48 coronavirus patients died, the highest single-day number since the start of the pandemic. This brings the death toll to 2,480 by August 4.

Of those who passed away in the past 24 hours, one was aged 30 to 39, two were aged 40 to 49, four 50 to 59, 17 were aged 60 to 69, 12 were aged 70 to 79, and 12 were older than 80. All of them had previous medical conditions.

The number of patients admitted to intensive care units went up to 436, from 419 the day before. In total, 7,771 coronavirus patients were admitted to hospitals in the country.

At a national level, 1,268,899 tests were carried out by August 4, 20,581 of them in the last 24 hours. Of these, 7,548 were performed on request.

In Romania, 5,322 people who tested positive for the Covid-19 infection are isolating at home, while 4,561 are under institutionalized isolation. Furthermore, 18,863 people are under quarantine at home, while 177 are under institutionalized quarantine.
