09 January 2012

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012, the largest exhibition dedicated to technology trends will be organized in Las Vegas from January 10 to January 13, 2012. TVs, tablets, ultrabooks and phones from major brands such as Sony, Microsoft, LG and Nokia are set to be unveiled at this year’s edition. During this event, all leading manufacturers of electronics in the world will rush to draw attention with their new products, with one exception - Apple, which is likely to organize a separate media event by the end of January, according to reports.

At the CES preview on Monday (January 9), Acer already announced the launch of the world's thinnest ultrabook, the 15 mm thick Aspire S5. This will be by  2mm thinner than the Apple Macbook Air, and will weigh the same at 1.35kg. Acer also announced the Iconia A700 Tab, a new tablet that is the first to feature a quad-core processor and a full-HD 1080p display, according to the international media.

Lenovo announced the world’s first television based on Google’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The K91 Smart TV, available in 42 inches and 50 inches versions, will initially be for sale only in China.

LG will unveil a TV set measuring just 4mm thick that will use the same technology used in the latest smartphone screens to produce a resolution higher than any other set of its size currently available. The ‘organic light-emitting diode’ (OLED) system offers a ‘refresh-rate’ that is 1,000 times faster than most current sets.

Over the years, revolutionary technologies were presented at the yearly CES, such as Blu-ray Disc in 2004, the DVD in 1996, the Xbox in 2002, HDTVs 1998,  the Tetris in 1988, the Commodore 64 computer in 1982, the CDs in 1981, and the Video Recorder in 1970.
