Competition Council investigates large retailers in Romania

14 November 2014

The Competition Council has started an investigation on possible violations of the national and European competition rules. The investigation targets several large retailers active on the local market, namely Auchan Romania, Carrefour Romania, Romania Hypermarche (Cora), Kaufland Romania and Trident Trans Tex, as well as their suppliers.

“We’ve recently completed a large-scale investigation in this area and the results will be announced by the end of this month. There are however indications of a possible price fixing between some retailers and their suppliers. Agreements on price fixing represent a serious deviation from the principle of free competition on the market, resulting in harm to consumers,” said Bogdan Chiriţoiu, president of the Competition Council.
