Commercial vehicle sales fall in Romania during January and February while EU figures slide again

vans sxchuSales of commercial vehicles slid in Romania in February, according to the latest figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), published today (March 27 ). Year-on-year, new commercial vehicle registrations in Romania were down by 17.4 percent in February. For January and February, compared to the same period in 2012, there was a rise in registrations, up 7 percent.

At a European level, the market recorded its fourteenth consecutive monthly decline, according to ACEA. Overall in the EU, new commercial vehicle registrations were down by 13.3 percent in February and by 11.9 percent in January and February, both compared to the corresponding period in 2012.

Looking at registrations by vehicle type in Romania, there were falls across most of the different classes, but light commercial vehicles were up slightly over January and February and down by a more modest 7.1 percent for February alone. The overall figures were helped by a big January increase in bus and coach registrations, while for other vehicle types there were drops in both months.

The major national markets in Europe again recorded declines, but again the UK bucked the trend. France, Germany, Spain and Italy all posted drops, with the smallest in France, down by 12.3 percent for February and by 11.1 percent for January and February. The biggest drops were seen in Italy – a 31.3 percent reduction in February and a 27.3 percent fall for the first two months of 2013 combined.
