The frost sets in Romania: From 15 plus on Christmas to minus 15 on New Year’s Eve

After spring-like weather for Christmas, with temperatures of over 15 degrees Celsius in some of Romania's regions winter has set in bringing the frost and some snow. The air temperature dropped abruptly on Tuesday in most of Romania's regions and Bucharest had its first snoflakes this winter.

So, if you’re planning to party outside on the New Year’s Eve, you might consider getting some warm clothes with you as the weather keeps getting colder in Romania these days.

For Wednesday, December 30, the meteorologists expect some snow in the mountain areas, as well as in Banat and Oltenia regions. It could also snow in Muntenia, Moldova, and Dobrogea regions. The wind is expected to blow stronger in the eastern and south-eastern areas, and locally in the western part of the country and in the mountain areas. The maximum temperatures will stay between 2 and minus 6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures can go down to as low as minus 17 degrees Celsius in Transylvania.

It will continue to be cold on Thursday, December 31, but snow is unlikely to appear. The wind might blow stronger in eastern Romania and in the mountain areas. However, the temperatures will remain low – maximum 2 degrees Celsius and minimum minus 17 degrees Celsius.

The weather will also be cold in Bucharest. On December 31, the maximum temperature will be 1 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature might go down to minus 11 degrees Celsius during the night.
