Romania's Cluj-Napoca pays EUR 15 mln to become European Cultural Capital

The Cluj-Napoca City Council will support with EUR 15 million the project which aims to turn Cluj Napoca into the European Cultural Capital in 2021.

It will allocate the funds for six years, starting 2017, but only if the city receives this title, reports local Wall-street.ro.

The total budget for this project amounts to EUR 35 million, said Emil Boc, the Cluj-Napoca mayor and former Prime Minister. The money will come from government and European funds, as well as from the County Council and sponsors.

The Government offers EUR 10 million, the County Council - EUR 6 mln, the EU funds amount to EUR 1.5 mln, and EUR 2.5 mln come from sponsorships.
