Drivers could have their car registration temporarily suspended in Romania

21 August 2017

Romanian drivers’ car registrations can get temporarily suspended, according to an emergency ordinance the Government approved on Friday, August 18. The bill amends the Road Code.

The code’s current version provides that registrations can be only cancelled. However, they can’t be temporarily suspended.

In case of suspensions provided by the new bill, the owner will continue to have the car registered on his name. However, the driver will not be able to use the car on a public road during that period.

Car registrations will be suspended if the car’s periodic technical inspection has expired or has been cancelled. People who acquire a car and who don’t register the car purchase contract will also get a suspension.
