Business owner: Romanian construction market has lost direction

15 October 2014

The Romanian construction market has completely lost direction, and 2014 was one of the least friendly years in the company’s history, said Marcel Barbut, owner of construction materials provider AdePlast.

The market started to decrease in August, and it continued in September, which is atypical for the construction market, usually on the up in the third quarter. The market was supported by private investments and renovations, said the entrepreneur.

The company however managed to grow its sales by a quarter in the first nine months of this year, but complains about the lack of public investments, which has kept the constructions market to a low level.

Adeplast had a turnover of EUR 54 million in the first nine months of 2014, 24% higher compared to the same period of last year. Exports represented some EUR 2.6 million, as the company entered new markets to sell its products, such as Hungary, Austria, Germany, Greece, Bulgaria and Moldova.

Adeplast produces mortars, adhesives, insulation materials and decorative paints. The company operates three factories in Romania and has about 250 employees.
