Bulgarian PM: Bulgaria outruns Romania in every possible way

22 March 2016

Bulgaria has outrun Romania in every way long time ago, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov said yesterday during a TV interview. He was asked when Bulgaria would manage to surpass Romania.

“Their ministers steal, and they’ve been eventually caught and imprisoned, whereas their president searches for asylum in Moldova. I don’t see any Bulgarians running to Romania,” said Borisov, cited by Focus Information Agency.

He referred to Romania’s former President Traian Basescu who has recently asked for citizenship in the Republic of Moldova.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister said that prevention was the most important, and he did everything possible to prevent his ministers from stealing.

“Those whom I catch stealing know that they’ll leave right away,” Borisov added.

However, the European Commission’s reports show little progress for Bulgaria in fighting corruption and organized crime whereas Romania has been praised for its big campaign against corruption.
