Bucharest has adhered to the Urban Food Policy international pact, which aims to promote a sustainable and ecological food system in urban areas.

About 100 mayors from several countries, including Romania, signed the document initiated by Milan’s mayor Giuliano Pisapia. The signing ceremony took place on October 15.

Bucharest’s interim mayor Stefanel Dan Marin led the Bucharest City Hall’s delegation. General Consul George Bologan also attended the event, according to a statement of the Romanian General Consulate in Milan.

The pact focuses on four principles: ensuring a healthy nutrition, promoting a sustainable food system, education on healthy eating, and reducing food waste. The document is to be submitted to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on October 16.
