Bucharest commuters experience worst traffic jams in Europe

Bucharest is the city with the worst traffic jams in Europe, with a congestion level of 41%, according to TomTom’s Traffic Index.

Other European cities with high traffic congestion levels are Warsaw (40%) and Rome (38%). They surpassed cities such as London (37%), Marseille (36%) and Paris (35%).

The world ranking is topped by Istanbul (58%) followed, in order, by Mexico City (55%), Rio de Janeiro (51%), Moscow (50%), Salvador (46%), Recife (45%), Saint Petersburg (44%), Bucharest (41%), Warsaw (40%) and Los Angeles and Taipei (39% each). Find the full ranking here.

The Traffic Index measures the impact traffic congestion has on over 200 cities around the world, and aims to help drivers, businesses and governments better manage congestion.

“Road authorities and local governments can use TomTom’s traffic data to better manage traffic flow during the rush hour,” said Ralf-Peter Schaefer, VP TomTom Traffic, cited by AFP.
