Booking website Vola.ro expands to Ukraine, eyes Russian market

25 April 2012

Romanian travel agency Vola.ro has expanded to the Ukraine, its second international market after Poland. The move could also be a dress rehearsal for expansion onto the Russian market, the biggest in the region.  Vola.ro opened Avio.ua in Ukraine, five years after launching in Romania. In Poland, the company is present with Fru.pl.

“The launch of Avio.ua also represents a way of testing the opportunity to expand in the future to the largest market in the region – Russia”, said Daniel Truica, Managing Partner at Vola.ro.

All three websites sell airline tickets, hotel reservations and travel insurance. The new subsidiary is headquartered in Kiev, but part of the call center activity will be managed in Warsaw.

Vola.ro was founded in 2007. In 2008, investment fund Tar Heel Capital bought 35 percent of Fru.pl, the majority shareholder in the Romanian company. The Romanian company posted a turnover of over EUR 15 million in 2011, up three-fold over the previous year. The company has a team of 50.
