The biggest 6,630 companies in Romania post a turnover of EUR 115.6 billion, have an operating profit of EUR 9.1 billion and have 1.06 million employees, said yesterday Mihai Daraban, the president of Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Over 6,000 small enterprises have been established in the last year, according to Daraban, reports local Ziarul Financiar. However, the number of large and very large enterprises tends to go down.

Romania has 275 companies with turnovers of over EUR 100 million. Only 88 of them are 100% Romanian owned, whereas only 46 have 100% private Romanian capital, according to the president of Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He thinks that Romania’s economy is competitive and that the fact that exports are again a driver for economic growth is proof of that. Romanian exports will continue to grow by over 7% annually and will exceed EUR 60 billion next year, Daraban added.
