The average value of a mortgage loan granted by the largest Romanian lender BCR was about EUR 36,700 (RON 163,000), last year, similar to that in 2013, BCR announced yesterday.

In Bucharest, the average mortgage loan was higher, at almost EUR 43,000 (RON 191,000).

Most Romanians who took mortgage loans bought 2-room apartments (45%), according to BCR. Less than a third- 27%- bought 3-room apartments and 10% acquired studios. One in five clients bought apartments on the top floor, BCR statistics show.

Most customers who took mortgage loans are men between 25 and 40, married and with upper education.

BCR is the biggest bank in Romania, with EUR 14.4 billion in assets, as well as the largest mortgage lender.
