Average gross salary goes up by 7.6% in Romania in 2014

The average gross monthly wage in Romania amounted to EUR 527 last year, up by 7.6% compared to 2013.

The average net salary reached EUR 384 in 2014, up by 7.5% compared to the previous year, while the total cost for the employer went up by 6.2%, to EUR 676 per employee (per month). Thus, some 43% of the companies’ labor costs went to the state as taxes.

The highest net salaries were recorded in the financial intermediation and insurance sectors. These were 2.2 times higher than the average net salary. The salaries in IT&C were almost double compared to the average net salary, whereas the salaries in the mining and quarrying were 92% higher compared to the average net earnings.

The average number of employees was little over 4.5 million, up by 64,000 compared to 2013. Some 53% of all the employees were men.

Men also had on average 8% higher salaries than women.
