Artmark's end of the year auction raises EUR 1.7 mln for Romanian art

Romanian art worth some EUR 1.7 million sold at the Christmas auction organized by Artmark yesterday (December 19),which reached a purchase rate of 95.5 percent. The auction set ten artist records, with paintings by Nicolae Grigorescu snatching the three highest prices paid during the evening.

The amounts paid for art objects at the end of the year auction this year was slightly higher than in 2011 – when EUR 1.6 million was  paid for Romanian art, and than in 2010, when the total value of the final auction of the year was of EUR 1.29 million.

As many as 600 bidders – out of which 100 online or via phone and written offers fought for over 200 lots of art objects.

Best sold paintings were those by Nicolae Grigorescu, Corneliu Baba, Theodor Pallady, Nicolae Tonitza. Grigorescu's Întoarcerea de la târg was sold for EUR 165,000, while his painting Ciobănaş pe Valea Doftanei went for EUR 57,500, and Han în Bretania, EUR 60,000.
