Another popular club in Bucharest closes down temporarily after the Colectiv tragedy

05 November 2015

Kulturhaus Bukarest, one of young Bucharesters’ favorite clubs, announced that it will close down temporarily. The decision came after last Friday’s tragedy in Colectiv Club, which killed 32 people. This is the second big club in Bucharest that has announced it would close, after Expirat, whose owner announced earlier this week that he would shut down his club for good.

“Our main priority is the safety of the people that come here. Following the tragic event at Colectiv Club in which we’ve lost good friends, while others are still fighting for their lives, we decided to stop any commercial activity and, while being next to them, their friends and families, to also work to increase the club’s safety,” Kulturhaus representatives said in a Facebook post.

A big part of the club’s structure of resistance is made of reinforced concrete, with brick vaults and beams made of iron. Kulturhaus Bukarest also has several emergency exits, which are clearly signaled, as well as hydrants and fire extinguishers, club representatives say.

The club will reopen its doors after all additional safety works will be completed.

The recent tragic event at Colectiv Club triggered massive protests in Romania, which led to the resignations of the Prime Minister and Bucharest’s district 4 mayor.
