A hospital in western Romania raises over a ton of coins in fundraising campaign

The municipal hospital in Arad, a city in western Romania, has managed to raise over a ton of coins in three weeks, in a public fundraising campaign. The money will be used to modernize and furnish the hospital’s Pediatrics section.

The campaign’s organizers have placed a big box in the city center, where all passersby could make donations. In three weeks, the citizens of Arad have put 1,150 kilograms of coins into the urn, as well as several banknotes, according to Digi 24 news station.

Some 40 volunteers will sort and count the money this weekend. The total sum raised is estimated at some EUR 20,000.
