Some 5% of the students in Romania are foreigners
Romania had about 541,000 people enrolled at universities in the 2014-2015 academic year. The number dropped by 37,000 compared to the previous academic year.
Over three-quarters (76%) of them were enrolled in undergraduate degree programs, 20% in master's degree programs, 3% in doctoral degree programs, and nearly 1% in postgraduate programs.
Some 94.7% of the total students in undergraduate degree programs were Romanians whereas foreigners had a share of 5.3%.
The drop in the number of students is most visible in private universities, where the number went significantly below 100,000 in the last three years. Over 107,000 students were enrolled in master's degree programs in the 2014-2015 academic year.
Romania reached almost 15 students per one university teacher, the lowest number in the last ten years.
