Romania’s Prime Minister Victor Ponta suffered a mild injury to his left foot during a basketball match he played with some friends during the weekend. He went to the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Tirana, Albania, with a slight limp.

“I’m sorry, but I’ve played basketball and I’m a bit…,” Ponta told the Albanian President who greeted him at the summit, on Tuesday, May 26.

According to sources close to the Romanian PM quoted by Mediafax news agency, he got injured during a basketball game on Sunday and the doctors advised him to avoid long walks for one or two days.

On Monday, Ponta cancelled some of his public appearances and only had meetings at the Government’s headquarters.

Victor Ponta is a sports enthusiasm. He played basketball since he was eleven and even won a national championship as a junior at Steaua Bucharest. He also competed in the national rally championship as a co-pilot.
