UPC Romania announces slight growth in customers in Q1 2012
Digital TV, internet and fixed line telephone operator UPC Romania has recorded at least some growth across all its areas of activity in the first quarter of 2012. UPC's total number of revenue generating units (RGU), or subscriptions in other words, increased to 1.6 million by the end of March this year.
Across UPC's different areas of activity, digital cable television was one of the best performers: subscriptions 6 percent up in Q1 2012, which translates as over 20,000 new customers, taking the total number of subscribers to 376,000. Satellite TV subscriptions increased very slightly and analog TV subscriptions fell. UPC had over a million TV clients in Romania at the end of Q1 2012.
Internet subscriptions also increased – 9,200 new subscriptions, which translates as a 3 percent increase on the previous quarter, taking the total to 296,800 subscriptions. UPC's fixed telephony customer base increased by 6 percent on the previous quarter, to reach around 200,000.
