Two telecom companies in Romania to launch info TV channels

18 September 2014

Romanian telecom provider RCS&RDS and telecom operator Orange both plan to launch special info TV channels. Digi Info and Orange Info will broadcast information about the companies’ offers and services, according to sources from the market, cited by local Mediafax.

Both companies asked the National Audiovisual Council CNA for satellite broadcasting license. Their requests are to be analysed during CNA’s meeting scheduled for today.

Orange launched Orange TV in Romania in 2013. At that time, the offer included 100 channels, out of which over 40 in High Definition format. The company saw its revenues in Romania flat year-on-year in the first six months of 2014, to EUR 448 million. Revenues were lower year-on-year in the second quarter of the year, at EUR 219 million, but were balanced out by the increase in the first quarter.

RCS & RDS recently opened its first store under the brand Digi, a brand under which the company has already been selling its product packages for some time in Romania. The shop, which is located downtown Bucharest, is the first step in a re-branding process of all RCS & RDS’ stores to Digi.
