Transylvania Book Festival bringing authors to Romania this September

14 June 2013

The Transylvanian Book Festival will be running between September 5 and September 9 in three of the area's small towns: Richis, Biertan (in picture) and Copsa Mare. The British organized event will bring a number of authors, from Britain and elsewhere, to Transylvania, aiming to introduce the writers to new readers.

The authors themselves in many cases have strong connections with Eastern Europe, Romania and Transylvania, having lived, studied and written about the region.

Also appearing at the festival will be much awarded Romanian poet Claudiu Komartin and Johann Schaas, one of the few remaining Saxons in Richis, who farms and keeps the congregation at the local church, as well as being a mine of local history and traditions.

The festival will feature discussions with the authors each day followed by guided tours of the area, opportunities to meet members of the local community and learn about the area's history, traditions and way of life. In the evenings, dinner and drinks will be laid on, as well as live music.

Tickets for the festival cost GBP 780 and include flights to Romania from the UK and entrance to the festival, while airport transfers and accommodation are not included in the price. The is a GBP 50 reduction for bookings made before the end of June.
