Train station in Romanian city evacuated due to suspicious suitcase

24 March 2016

The train station in Constanta, the seaside city in southeastern Romania, was evacuated on Thursday morning due to a suspicious suitcase left in a train.

The police, gendarmerie, firefighters, and medical teams went to the train station around 10:00 after a call made at the emergency number 112 announced the existence of a suspicious suitcase in the train that had just arrived from Bucharest, reports local Mediafax.

The area was evacuated, and the authorities started their searches. However, the alarm was false, as the luggage had only clothes inside, according to local Agerpres.

The authorities are now more alert after the terrorist attacks in Brussels, which killed more than 30 people. Romania declared March 24 a national day of mourning, in the memory of the victims.

Similar alerts were recorded in Romania in November last year, after the tragic Paris terrorist attacks.
