Romania's trade deficit reaches almost EUR 10 bln in first nine months

Romania’s exports increased by 9.1% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period of 2017, reaching EUR 50.85 billion. Meanwhile, the imports went up 9.5% year-on-year, to EUR 60.8 billion. The trade deficit thus widened by 11.8% compared to the first three quarters of 2017, to EUR 9.95 billion.

In September, however, exports outpaced imports, recording a 5.4% increase over September 2017 compared to only 3.4% in the case of imports.

The deficit in September thus stood at EUR 970 million, lower than the monthly average in the first eight months. In 2017, Romania recorded a trade deficit of EUR 12.96 billion, up 30% over 2016, as imports went up by 12.3% while exports increased by 9.1%.
