The blockbuster "The Avengers", produced by Marvel and Disney cashed in a record amount during its first box office week-end: over USD 200 million, exceeding the record held by one of the Harry Potter movies, with some USD 169 million in the first week-end. The revenues in the first week-end were close to the production costs, some USD 220 million, so the producers might have already recovered their investment in this film.

In Romania, box office data for the previous week-end has not been revealed yet.

The epic movie "The Avengers" gathers some of the best known comic book superheroes created by Marvel: Ion Man, Hulk, captain America and Thor, who unite to save the world.

It stars already known Hollywood actors, such as Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Palthrow and new names, like Chirs Hemsworth, who played Thor and Chris Evans, who played Captain America.
