Tennis match against Romanian star Simona Halep to be auctioned in sports ball

A demonstrative tennis match with Romanian champion Simona Halep, the current number 3 in the WTA ranking of the best women tennis players in the world, will be auctioned during the Swimmers' Ball, on November 19, 2014, according to Agerpres newswire.

The ball, which is organized by the Romanian Swimming Federation in partnership with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Sports and Youth, aims to raise funds to help Romanian athletes to prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, in 2020, according to former Olympic champion Camelia Potec, who’s now president of the Romanian Swimming Federation.

“This event will bring together some of Romania’s most successful athletes and local businessmen. Objects belonging to famous sportsmen will be auctioned, as well as a tennis match against Simona Halep,” Potec said in a press conference. The starting price of the aution for the game against Halep still needs to be decided, Potec added.

She didn’t mention when the game will be played.

Simona Halep recently ended the best season in her career, with a final in the WTA Finals tournament in Singapore, which she lost to American number one Serena Williams. Halep ended the year third in the WTA ranking, but she went up to second place in the hierarchy in mid-season, after playing the final in the French Open at Roland Garros and reaching the semifinals in Wimbledon.
