Romania’s 15 international airports were transited by a total of 5.2 million passengers in the first six months of this year, which is 6.5 percent more than in the same period of 2013, according to Ziarul Financiar.

Romania’s largest airport, Henri Coanda in Otopeni, near Bucharest, had 3.7 million passengers, 7 percent more than in the first six months of 2013. With 37 companies flying from Otopeni, the Henri Coanda airport generates 70 percent of the passenger traffic in Romania.

The second largest airport is the Cluj-Napoca one, which had 512,000 passengers, 11 percent more than in H1 2013. The Timisoara airport, the country’s third largest, saw a 20 percent drop in passengers after local carrier Carpatair moved its flights.
