Romania’s retail trade turnover speeds up growth in June

Romania’s retail turnover, except trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, grew by 10.2 percent in June this year compared to the same month in 2013, according to the latest data provided by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The increase was mainly caused by food, beverages and tobacco which went up by 11.7 percent, as well as by non-food products which recorded a 14 percent growth in sales volumes. Car fuel trade in specialized stores however was up by 2.1 percent in June.

In the first six months of the year, the retail trade turnover was up 8.2 percent. Sales of non-food products grew the most, by 12.1 percent, followed by food (+7.1 percent) and fuel sales (+2.8 percent). These are all gross figures, which are not seasonally adjusted.
