President Klaus Iohannis told the Parliament members that they should take the responsibility for four major objectives this year.

People should regain trust in politics and the state’s institutions should function in a democratic country, according to Iohannis who held a speech in the Parliament yesterday.

The political class also needs to give answers to major issues that include education, pension system, healthcare, the public administration wages, and the demographic decline, Iohannis said.

“What solutions do we find for the hundreds of thousands of young people without a high school degree who fit poorly or not at all in the labor market?” the president asked.

He also said that the current pension system could fail in the future and not prove sustainable.

“How do we avoid a future in which Romania becomes unattractive for its labor force?” Iohannis added.

He also asked the MPs to promote a different kind of elections year and abstain from populist measures, so that this year would not be lost.
