Romania wants a longer implementation period for EU-backed projects.

The Romanian Government presented on Tuesday, May 5, a memorandum for extending the implementation period for projects within the Sectoral Operational Programme Human Resources Development (SOP HRD) 2007-2013, said the European Funds Minister Marius Nica, cited by local Agerpres.

The Government wants to reach an 80% absorption rate for European Funds from the SOP HRD.

It will extend the projects’ implementation period until December 31 this year. Certain projects should end in June, but the indicators are not met, said Nica.

At the end of March, the absorption rate for SOP HRD funds amounted to 46.53%.
