Romania's Finance Ministry issues euro bonds of EUR 500 mln in domestic market

25 February 2016

Romania’s Finance Ministry borrowed yesterday EUR 500 million though a bond issue with a five-year maturity.

The yield reached 1%, a new record low for loans in foreign currency in the domestic market.

The demand was over two times higher than the amount the Finance Ministry wanted to borrow. Banks subscribed offers of EUR 1.07 billion, but the state attracted only the planned amount.

The Treasury last borrowed money in foreign currency from the local market in August 2014 when it reopened an issue due in 2019 for EUR 250 million.

In 2014, the state sold euro bonds of EUR 928.7 million on the internal market.
