How much do Romanians spend on food for kids at school
Romanian households spend on average about RON 150 (EUR 32.7) per month on children’s food at school or kindergarten, according to a study by the food company Unicorn Naturals.
By comparison, the monthly investments on this segment are six times higher in other European countries.
Romanian parents tend to pay more attention to the diet of young children. But children need a supervised and healthy diet in all development stages, according to the study.
The sale of natural products for children slightly go up in September and October, when school starts. The demand remains constant until April. The volume of sales drops in summer.
The still low purchasing power, the lack of education about healthy food and the lack of national programs encouraging consumption of fruits and vegetables have negative effects in Romania. The country is among the first in Europe for the rate of obesity and infant diabetes.
