Romanians pay EUR 90 mln for cogeneration tax in first quarter

03 July 2014

Electricity consumers in Romania paid RON 406.4 million (some EUR 90 million) as cogeneration tax in the first quarter of 2014, down 11 percent from the amount reported in the same period in 2013, due to lower energy production, according to data from Romania’s energy authority ANRE, cited by local Mediafax.

The decrease in the tax value was registered mainly due to the 5.56 percent reduction in the quantity of electricity produced in cogeneration units - simultaneous production of electricity and heat.

In the first quarter of 2013, the value of the cogeneration tax was of RON 457 million (some EUR 104 million).
