Romanian state TV to broadcast live debates from Romanian Parliament

17 December 2013

The Romanian state television will broadcast the plenum sessions of the Romanian Parliament next year on its TVR News channel. This will allow Romania to comply with the EU directive calling for all Parliament debates to be open to the public.

The project will be cost-free and the Parliament will not employ anyone, either as reporter or as anchor. The Parliament however already has cameras bought in 2004, and TVR employees will use those cameras to broadcast the feed from the plenum sessions.

NGOs and activists frequently complain they do not have access to the Parliament sessions where important laws were debated, and that the life feed from the Parliament's website has not been working.

Last week, the Parliament passed some laws which triggered important reactions at home and abroad. More about it, here.
