Romanian smartphone producer Allview ups sales fourfold, launches slimmest smartphone in the world

22 May 2014

Romanian IT&C producer Allview increased its sales fourfold year-on-year in 2013, to EUR 30 million, and about 8 percent of them came from international markets. The company, headquartered in the Central Romanian city of Brasov, sold 250,000 devices last year, said Adrian Visan, development manager for the company.

In 2012, Allview reported a turnover of some EUR 7.5 million, according to data reported to the Finance Ministry. Apart from the markets where the Romanian company sells the devices it produces for other companies, Allview’s main foreign markets are Bosnia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova – a new market for the company, and Germany, Visan told Romania-Insider.com.

Allview hopes to see an increase in Germany on the back of its newly launched model X2 Soul, Visan added. A team of 140 Romanians all headquartered in Brasov has been working since September 2013, on Allview’s new product, which aims to be the slimmest smartphone in the world.

The 5.5 mm thick device, packed with a Media Tek octa core processor, a 15 MP camera, was made in China, but its software optimization and the interface for the European market was produced by Romanians. Allview works with a Chinese production partner, and via this partnership it sells the new smartphone anywhere in the world except in China, a market where Allview's partner company sells a similar device.

The smartphone will be available for sale starting next week, for a fixed price of EUR 333 internationally, and for RON 1,499 in Romania. The Romanian producer accepts pre-orders on its site. Allview is owned by Romanian company Visual Fan, which makes mobiles, tablets, DVD players and TVs. Allview Mobile has offices in Romania and Germany.
