Romanian president: I hope Romanian companies will have priority for contracts with US Army at Deveselu

21 May 2012

Romanian companies should have priority access to contracts with the US army for building the new base in Romania, at Deveselu, where elements of the US anti-missile shield will be located, said Romanian president Traian Basescu.

“In June, the US Army will start making public tenders […] So companies will be able to submit offers, nobody will exclude them, and let's hope Romanians give good offers to become suppliers. Logistics are also needed. Romanian companies will have access and I hope they have priority access - as they are based here, they should make the best offers,” said Basescu during a conference at Chicago over last week-end.

The US Army will organize two information events on June 13 and 14, in Bucharest and Caracal, for companies that want to take part in supplying services to the camp at Deveselu, southern Romania.

The US authorities expect two contracts to be signed, one for the infrastructure work and the other for the whole facilities of the US Navy.
