Romanian President Basescu: “US visit will be recorded in history”

Romanian president Traian Basescu, who met US president Barack Obama on Tuesday during his official visit to the US, said his visit will be recorded in history as it also included the signing of the anti-missile shield agreement. For the third time to the US, but in a first meeting with President Obama, Basescu has also met a group of Congress members. “Romania and the US will have a strategic partnership. We have also agreed on the declaration about this strategic partnership. It is an extremely important political document which will guide our relations in the following period and I think it represents a new stage in the bilateral relations,” said Basescu.

The meeting between Basescu and Obama, which took place in the famous Oval Office in the White House, lasted for 30 minutes and was followed by a meeting with the US VP Joe Biden. Romania and US signed on Tuesday the document which will allow the US to place elements of the anti-missile shield in Romania, at Deveselu. More about it here.
