Romanian PM: When the weather is nice, Bucharest looks like a city where one can live

28 May 2013

When the weather is nice, Bucharest looks like a city where one can live, but otherwise the Romanian capital has its faults, such as pollution and heavy traffic. This statement was made by Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who attended The Cities of he Future conference in Bucharest.

“Today, on my way here, I noticed that, especially when the weather is nice, Bucharest looks like a city where one can live. I however realized immediately that I, as a Prime Minister, have an easier time in traffic, and of course, if I were to look deeper, I'd notice many other things that need to be done in our cities,” said the PM. He mentioned the pollution, “which we don't know how to or simply we cannot reduce,” the traffic problem, “which exists in all European and worldwide cities,” and other things which concern the quality of life, and “all the small things we notice when they don't work and when we need them,” the PM concluded.

He noticed that Bucharest has changed a lot for the good, but said it was not a praise for the mayor Sorin Oprescu, but rather for the fact that many ideas from Germany and other Western European countries were applied.

In his opinion, the key to success is a real partnership between the private business environment, NGOs and local authorities.
