Romanian dairy factory tries crowdfunding after E.coli scandal

11 March 2016

Romanian investor Marius Badea, the owner of the Bradet dairy factory, wants to get EUR 2.2 million via a local online crowdfunding platform. He offers people the chance to buy shares in his company or coupons, which they can use to purchase the company’s products.

The Bradet dairy factory has recently been in the middle of a big scandal after the local authorities said that the milk and dairy products produced there could have been the cause of an E.coli bacterial infection that caused the illness of several children in Arges county.

However, the Cantacuzino research institute in Bucharest later showed that the Bradet milk was not the source of the infection.

The owner now wants to use the wave of sympathy and solidarity shown by many Romanians and get financing for the plant. He wants to raise RON 10 million (EUR 2.2 mln) in 60 days.

He turned the company from a limited liability company (SRL) into a joint stock company (SA) and aims to get people to buy its shares.

The company Bradet SRL, which owns the dairy factory, had a turnover of EUR 2.2 million in 2014.
