Romanian Halep's tennis final at Roland Garros broadcast live in Bucharest park

06 June 2014

The final of the French tennis tournament at Roland Garros, which will see Romania’s Simona Halep against Russian Maria Sarapova, will be broadcast live on an open air cinema screen in a Bucharest park, and entry will be free of charge.

The match will be seen in the Herastrau park, at the CinePark area, via the Charles de Gaulle entry, on Saturday, June 7, starting 16, 00. This was organized by the Bucharest municipality. The screen will be 20 sqm wide, which should allow a large audience to watch the final.

For her qualification in the final, after beating Germany’s Andrea Petkovic, Halep will go up to number 3 WTA, the best position ever held in the rankings by a Romanian female tennis player.

Maria Sharapova, the current number 7 WTA, managed to defeat Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, after three really disputed sets, and advanced to the final.

The Russian and the Romanian met just one month ago, in the final at the Madrid Mutua Open, which Sharapova won also coming back from 6-1 for Halep in the first set, to win the following sets 6-2, 6-3.
