Romanian hackers attack Yahoo servers

07 October 2014

Romanian hackers have illegally accessed Yahoo servers, by using the recently – discovered Shellshock coding error, according to IT specialist Jonathan Hall. Romanians have accessed the servers of Yahoo, Lycos and WinZip.

They were trying to find access points to Yahoo!Games, which has about 2 million users. The FBI was already informed and is investigating the attack, and Yahoo says no user data was at risk.

The Shellshock coding error was discovered a month ago, but experts say it has been around for the last two decades. The Shellshock bug could be used to access sensitive information or gain control of the computer.

Yahoo however said the servers were in fact not affected by Shellshock, but rather by a vulnerability in a debugging script the company was running at the time of the attacks.
