Romanian Govt. grants two extra days off for winter holidays

11 December 2014

December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year’s Eve) were declared days off this year by the Romanian Government, according to an official announcement. The decision was taken during the Government’s meeting on Wednesday, December 10.

The Government has decided that all state employees will benefit from the days off, except for those working in public institutions whose activities don’t allow this. The two days off will be recovered this year, or by the end of January next year, according to the Government.

This allows public sector employees to have five consecutive days off for Christmas and five consecutive days off for New Year’s as well.

The legal days off for the end of this year are December 25, the Christmas day, and December 26, but December 27 and December 28 fall in the weekend, so they are also off. In early-2014, state employees will not work on January 1 and January 2, as well as on January 3 and 4 (weekend). They will return to work on January 5.
