Romanian business champions increase revenues and profits

The top 20 biggest companies owned by Romanian investors made a total turnover of EUR 5.7 billion in 2014, some EUR 480 million bigger than in 2013.

Their cumulated net profits were EUR 176 million, up from EUR 141 million in 2013. They also added more than 4,500 employees to their payrolls, reaching 35,761 employees.

Dedeman, Romania’s biggest do-it-yourself (DIY) retailer kept the first spot among locally-owned companies, with a EUR 768 million turnover, 27% higher than in 2013, reports local Wall-street.ro. Dedeman, which is controlled by Romanian entrepreneurs Dragos and Adrian Paval, was also the most profitable company in this ranking, with a net profit of EUR 93.5 million, up by 44% compared to 2013. It had more than 7,100 employees.

Telecom operator RCS&RDS, controlled by Zoltan Teszari, went up to the second spot last year, with a EUR 520 million turnover. The company had more than 10,000 employees.

Fuel distributor Oscar Downstream, went down to the number three spot, as its business declined last year to EUR 428 million.
